Doloc Town Vertical Farm Layout
Build a side-view factory: water first, weather second, animals in their own column.
Doloc Town’s farm is a side-scrolling factory, not a Stardew square. You get a narrow cliff, a tent, and a rule: dirt does not grow crops — only basins / planters. A good layout is a walking loop you can finish before stamina dies. A bad layout is a pretty shelf you rebuild after the first acid rain. This guide is the spatial companion to Crops, Weather Protection, Automation, and Farm expansion.
Everything on the farm can be moved, including the mailbox and the cargo drone pad. You get platforms and sprinklers back if you pick them up; you lose the plants. Rearrange on a harvest morning, not mid-growth.
The 6-wide starter habit
Think in a six-tile-wide working column on the first platform: mailbox and cargo pad on one end (you actually have to launch the pad — see Money), tent / bed / chests in the middle, and a compact basin row you pass every wake-up. Cassia stands on this plot; leave her a walkway so tutorial markers do not hide behind a wall of foam planters.
Cardboard boxes (small stack chests) belong next to the workbench, not on the far left of a future palace. Running the full width of a cliff for copper is how days disappear. Sort: raw scrap, processed ingots, quest hold, seed bank.
Water geometry (this is the real layout)
Press E on a crop to see water, mulch, and harvest. Harvest with a sickle when you have more than a handful of basins.
Manual sprinkler coverage is about 7×3 (seven horizontal, three vertical). It can water basins up to three tiles above, so a platform of plants over a sprinkler is a feature, not a bug. Electric sprinkler is about 10×5 and reaches above and below. A free electric unit arrives from early quests; the recipe is later. You can ring one electric sprinkler with many small basins or fewer large boxes — both work if they sit in the rectangle.
Do not sprinkle a decorative hallway. Put water on food. Put gene experiments on a covered indoor or greenhouse slice so a failed roll does not coincide with acid 0.45 weather.
Weather, greenhouse, basement
Acid rain and scorching sun are combat stats for plants. Keratinized / covered crops live; fashion rows die. Lightning wants rods near generators (Weather Protection). Shiitake bags in a basement ignore some season locks — that is a layout choice, not a flavor room. Greenhouse / indoor mini hubs from 1.0 exist so Month 4 heat does not delete your Tomato plan.
Animals need their own column. Community notes are blunt: livestock eat ground crops even with full troughs if you let them share the vegetable floor. Fence the barn line away from Endyam. Fish tanks from Fish breeding want power and a path that does not cross the sickle swing.
1.0 automation coverage
Agricultural drones and indoor mini hubs do not forgive spaghetti. Leave drone-path air — stations need line-of-sight and power from solar / wind documented on Automation. If drones stop (known issue on 1.00.03), the layout is not always the bug, but a blocked tile or empty battery chest is.
Farm expansion (5,000 G class unlocks, extra left ground, remote territories) is for when watering is already solved. Buying space you cannot cover is how you go broke. Read Farm expansion before you move the cargo pad to a pretty cliff you never visit.
A practical floor plan
- Ground / first deck — bed, mailbox, cargo pad, workbench, seed chest, six-wide Endyam / staple row, one manual sprinkler stacked vertically.
- Second deck — electric sprinkler ring, cash crops, cover attachments.
- Indoor / basement — mushrooms, gene machines, drying racks, batteries.
- Barn column — troughs, toilets, no shared crop tiles.
- Roof / high deck — solar, lightning rods, later drone station.
When in doubt, copy the day’s walking order from the Daily checklist. Layout is just that checklist made of wood.
Exact building catalog rows (220 equipment pieces) live on doloctowndb.wiki — use the community database page when you forget whether a basin is wood, metal, or foam.
Build for the loop you already live, then stack. The wasteland does not grade interior design. It grades whether the sprinkler rectangle covered the Keratinized row when the sky went yellow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I move the mailbox and cargo pad?
Yes. Almost everything on the farm relocates. You keep furniture; you lose growing crops if they were in picked-up basins.
How large is manual sprinkler coverage?
About 7 tiles wide and 3 tall, including basins above the sprinkler. Electric sprinklers are about 10×5 and reach above and below.
Should animals share the crop floor?
No. Give livestock their own column. They can eat ground crops even when troughs are full.
When do I buy farm expansion?
After water and weather covers work. Extra dirt you cannot sprinkle is a gold sink — see Farm expansion and the Money guide.
Where should Shiitake go?
Basement or indoor bags if you have them. They ignore some season rules that outdoor strawberries must obey.
Do 1.0 drones need a special layout?
Leave clear paths and power. Stations are not decoration; blocked tiles and empty batteries look like “broken automation.”
